If you need help remembering how crooked our government is, let me remind you of the opioid epidemic and how they ended it.
For about 20 years, doctors and pharmaceutical companies shoved opioids down the throats of every single person who walked into a clinic. It didn’t matter if it was a backache, a toothache, or just stress. The system really was that broken. These drug reps would show up and wine and dine the doctors. They offered baseball tickets, basketball tickets, vacations, fancy dinners, whatever it took to get doctors to push their drugs.
And when you went to the doctor, you’d barely finish describing your pain and you’d walk out with a bag full of pills. That’s because everyone involved was making money, everyone except for you.
I don’t want to make this all about me, but I was 21 years old when I blew a disc in my back. The pain was real, but it came and went. And the doctor was shoving hydrocodone at me like candy. This was over twenty years ago now, and I remember finally saying I didn’t want it anymore.
Thankfully, I stopped taking it. I never had withdrawals, I never went through what so many others have. But they’ve ruined millions of lives with this stuff. Everyone knows someone with a horror story. And back then, I had no idea that hydrocodone was basically heroin in pill form. It absolutely destroys lives.
So what did they do when the epidemic became undeniable? Did they sue the doctors? Did they go after the pharmaceutical companies? Did anyone responsible face justice?
Of course not.
The biggest lawsuit was against Rite Aid. That’s right. Not the pill manufacturers. Not the doctors who got paid to destroy lives. No. The government went after a few pharmacy chains because they claimed pharmacists should have somehow recognized when someone looked too addicted and turned them away. Never mind that pharmacists can’t even deny a prescription legally.
That’s how they ended it. No drug company executives in handcuffs. No doctors losing licenses. Just scapegoats behind a pharmacy counter.
The government is so disgustingly corrupt. Pharmaceutical companies are never held responsible for anything. And you better believe they’re already working on the next drug to steal more years off your life. Because that is the business model. Ruin you slowly and make you pay for it.
